Servicing High Pressure Pumps

Servicing High Pressure Pumps on Pressure Washers

The Valves

On the inlet and from the outlet of the pump are one or more valves (usually 3 on most standard high pressure pumps). Usually a small plastic outer case and a small metal seat which is controlled by a spring, the valve are placed in the correct direction to control the water in and out of the main chamber, where the pressure is attually increased. The valve more often than not do not need changing they just need to be cleaned out, reseated and sealed, to check that the valve are working alright just blow hard against them, if the valve opens slightly then it is generally alright, just grease, reseal and replace.

The High Pressure Seals

There are three seals as such in most high pressure pumps, the high pressure seal the low pressure seal and the restop, the seals will slowly were down dependant on amount of use the condition and temperature of the water. Pressure will slowly drop as the seals where, then they need replacing.

The Ceramic Pistons

The Ceramic pistons should be white and clean with no cracks in them, if they are not then they need replacing.
